Latlongpick: Coordinate Converter
Convert a column of coordinates between decimal degrees, DMS, UTM, MGRS and Open Location Code (plus codes) in Google Sheets.
What it does
Latlongpick turns a column of coordinates into every common format, in new columns next to your data. The math runs inside your spreadsheet: your coordinates are never sent anywhere.
- Reads decimal degrees (40.446, -79.982), degrees-minutes-seconds (40°26'46"N 79°58'56"W), degrees and decimal minutes, UTM (17T 586310 4477770), UPS, MGRS (17TNE8630977770), Open Location Code (plus codes), geohash and Maidenhead locators, even pasted messy text.
- Writes latitude and longitude, DMS, degrees and decimal minutes, UTM, MGRS (1 m to 1 km precision) and plus codes, plus the format it read and any notes.
- Works on one column of mixed formats, or a latitude column next to a longitude column. Detects a header row.
For surveyors, GIS analysts, search and rescue teams, drone pilots, geocachers and anyone with a sheet of positions.
- WGS84 only. Not for navigation or safety-critical use without independent verification.
How to use it
- Install Latlongpick: Coordinate Converter from the Google Workspace Marketplace (in Google Sheets: Extensions › Add-ons › Get add-ons, then search for Latlongpick).
- In your spreadsheet, choose Extensions › Latlongpick: Coordinate Converter › Open Latlongpick. The sidebar opens on the right.
- Select a column of coordinates (any format: 40.446, -79.982 · 40°26'46"N 79°58'56"W · 17T 586310 4477770 · 17TNE8630977770 · 87G2C2W9+C4), or a latitude and a longitude column, then convert. Results go in new columns to the right. WGS84; not for navigation.
- Press Convert selected cells in the sidebar, or choose Extensions › Latlongpick: Coordinate Converter › Convert selected coordinates.
- The new columns: Latitude, Longitude, DMS, UTM, MGRS, Plus code, Read as, Notes. Nothing in your own columns is changed.
- Bought a license? Choose Extensions › Latlongpick: Coordinate Converter › License key and paste it in (the Show button reveals what you typed).
Pricing
- Free plan: 100 conversions a month. No account or sign-up. When they're used up, the add-on says so, and the free conversions come back on the 1st of the next month.
- Unlimited plan: 12 USD a year, a yearly license bought on Gumroad. Paste the license key in the add-on's sidebar (Extensions › Latlongpick: Coordinate Converter › License key). A fair-use limit of 20,000 rows a day applies.
Refunds: ask within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund ([email protected] or your Gumroad receipt). Renewals aren't refunded; cancel any time before your renewal date in your Gumroad library.
Permissions, in plain words
When you install Latlongpick, Google asks you to allow three things:
- spreadsheets.currentonly: See and change only the spreadsheet you open the add-on in, so it can read the cells you select and write its results in new columns. It can't open, list or read any of your other files.
- script.container.ui: Show its menu under Extensions and its sidebar inside Google Sheets.
- script.external_request: Connect to one outside address, sheets-api.fitztoppicks.com (our own service), to check the free allowance and the license and, for most add-ons, to answer the rows you run. Google Sheets only lets the add-on call that one address.
That's all. It never sees your email address, contacts, Gmail or other Drive files, and the only outside address it calls is sheets-api.fitztoppicks.com.
Privacy
- Only a count of conversions (and your license key, if you added one) goes to sheets-api.fitztoppicks.com to apply the free allowance. Your coordinates and other cells never leave the spreadsheet.
- To count the free allowance, our service keeps only scrambled codes (keyed hashes) and numbers: never your email address, your name or the text of your cells.
- Your license key is saved in your own Google account's settings for the add-on, and checked with Gumroad, where you bought it.
- No ads, no trackers, nothing sold or shared.
