Placardpick: Hazmat Lookup
Look up UN/NA numbers and proper shipping names in the 49 CFR 172.101 Hazardous Materials Table: class, packing group, labels.
What it does
Placardpick fills a shipping or inventory sheet from the § 172.101 Hazardous Materials Table.
- By UN or NA number (UN3480, NA1993, or just 1993, which lists both): ID, proper shipping name, hazard class or division, packing group, required labels and special provision codes.
- By name ("lithium ion batteries", "flammable liquid nos"): the best match and the next ones to check.
- A Notice column on every result row and a note on the header, so the warning stays with the data when the sheet is shared.
- Detects a header row; writes new columns beside your data without overwriting anything.
For shipping, warehouse and inventory teams who keep hazmat items in a sheet.
- IATA (air) and IMDG (sea) rules are not covered.
How to use it
- Install Placardpick: Hazmat Lookup from the Google Workspace Marketplace (in Google Sheets: Extensions › Add-ons › Get add-ons, then search for Placardpick).
- In your spreadsheet, choose Extensions › Placardpick: Hazmat Lookup › Open Placardpick. The sidebar opens on the right.
- Select a column of UN or NA numbers (UN3480, NA1993, 1993) or proper shipping names ("lithium ion batteries"), then run. You get the ID, proper shipping name, hazard class, packing group, labels and special provisions from the 49 CFR 172.101 table in new columns, each row with the verify notice.
- Press Look up hazmat entries in the sidebar, or choose Extensions › Placardpick: Hazmat Lookup › Look up selected UN numbers or names.
- The new columns: ID number, Proper shipping name, Hazard class, Packing group, Labels, Special provisions, Matches, Notice. Nothing in your own columns is changed.
- Bought a license? Choose Extensions › Placardpick: Hazmat Lookup › License key and paste it in (the Show button reveals what you typed).
Pricing
- Free plan: 20 lookups a month. No account or sign-up. When they're used up, the add-on says so, and the free lookups come back on the 1st of the next month.
- Unlimited plan: 29 USD a year, a yearly license bought on Gumroad. Paste the license key in the add-on's sidebar (Extensions › Placardpick: Hazmat Lookup › License key). A fair-use limit of 20,000 rows a day applies.
Refunds: ask within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund ([email protected] or your Gumroad receipt). Renewals aren't refunded; cancel any time before your renewal date in your Gumroad library.
Permissions, in plain words
When you install Placardpick, Google asks you to allow three things:
- spreadsheets.currentonly: See and change only the spreadsheet you open the add-on in, so it can read the cells you select and write its results in new columns. It can't open, list or read any of your other files.
- script.container.ui: Show its menu under Extensions and its sidebar inside Google Sheets.
- script.external_request: Connect to one outside address, sheets-api.fitztoppicks.com (our own service), to check the free allowance and the license and, for most add-ons, to answer the rows you run. Google Sheets only lets the add-on call that one address.
That's all. It never sees your email address, contacts, Gmail or other Drive files, and the only outside address it calls is sheets-api.fitztoppicks.com.
Privacy
- The numbers and names in the rows you run are sent over HTTPS to sheets-api.fitztoppicks.com only to answer them, and are never stored.
- To count the free allowance, our service keeps only scrambled codes (keyed hashes) and numbers: never your email address, your name or the text of your cells.
- Your license key is saved in your own Google account's settings for the add-on, and checked with Gumroad, where you bought it.
- No ads, no trackers, nothing sold or shared.
